In between the Fall and Spring semesters is MIT’s Independent Activities Period (IAP), a special four-week term during which students, faculty, staff, and alumnae can organize, sponsor, and take part in a large number of unique courses and activities. Various robot competitions are regularly part of IAP. Simon Kim, Daniel Smithwick and I teamed up to participate in a Lego Autonomous Robot Competition in January of 2007. The goal of the competition was to use various sensors to allow your robot to navigate a course and collect plastic balls. Our design incorporated centralized wheels which would allow the robot to spin when touch sensors were activated in the hopes of knocking opponents balls away.

We did not win.
